Sports injuries can occur suddenly, such as a sprained ankle, or can develop over time, such as a stress fracture.
Any athlete can get injured while playing a sport. Accidents, improper gear, not warming up or stretching and being out of shape can lead to a sports injury. An acute sport injury happens suddenly. These include sprains and strains, broken bones, dislocations, Achilles tendon injuries and more.
Chronic sports injuries occur over time and are often called overuse injuries. These include conditions such as tennis elbow and runner’s knee.
Sports injuries are commonly treated using the Rest – Ice – Compression – Elevation (RICE) method. More serious injuries may require surgery and rehabilitation.
